In the words of Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, “New York’s ability to adapt with changing times is what made us the world’s greatest city – and it’s going to be what keeps us strong in the 21st century.” To encourage that adaptation, in July 2012 the City of New York launched the adAPT design competition for New York City’s first building of “micro-apartments,” ranging from 250 to 370 square feet. The winner was “My Micro NY,” an innovative structure of 55 micro-units to be built on E. 27th Street in Manhattan.
Fred A. Bernstein, architectural critic and frequent New York Times contributor, will bring together: Housing Commissioner, Mathew Wambua; City Planning’s Urban Designer, Alex Washburn; architect Mimi Hoang, Principal and co-founder of nARCHITECTS, who created the winning design; and Nick Lembo, the winning design’s lead developer.
